| Every distributor is disassembled,
cleaned and glass bead blasted. Its then run htrough a mass finishing
machine to give it a durable, lightly polished finish. At that point
it is inspected and measured for wear, then the owner is contacted
with a list of necessary and optional repairs.
The shaft and cam lobes are polished, any parts that could rust
are sealed or lubricated, endplay is reduced in the main shaft and
cam assembly to closer than factory tolerances, the advance weight
pivots are repaired as needed, and the weight stops are ground so
that both weights seat at the same time (typically the seat stops
are misplaced in the initial assembly procedure, altering the amount
of total advance.) The shafts are tested for runout and straightened
as needed. The ground wires and terminal block wires are replaced
as needed.
If the advance assembly in your distributor is held together with
a plastic clip, the shaft will be modified to retain the assembly
with a steel screw for durability. This also allows adjustment of
the end play which otherwise could be excessive. Besides, the plastic
clips are no longer available!
In addition, we also recurve every distributor to the original advance
curve, or to performance specifications on a Sun 680 or Snap-On
Distrib-U-Scope tester (we have both!)
